Workload and complexity
Maintenance: The workload is relatively small, usually only individual parts need to be replaced or repaired, such as replacing piston rings or removing transmission covers, etc.
Overhaul: The workload is large, requiring a comprehensive disassembly and inspection of the entire transmission system, replacement of all non-standard parts, and necessary technical transformation to restore the performance of the equipment.
Purpose and Effect
- Maintenance: Mainly to ensure the short-term operating capacity of the equipment or vehicle, solve temporary faults, and restore the basic functions of the equipment.
- Overhaul: It is to restore the equipment to its intact technical state, extend its service life, and be as close to the original performance as possible. For example, after the overhaul of the transmission, flexible shifting, no abnormal noise, and no oil leakage are required.
Cost and Source of Funds
- Maintenance: The cost is low and is usually borne directly by the production cost.
- Overhaul: The cost is high and is usually paid by a special overhaul fund.
Applicable Situations
- Maintenance: Applicable to minor problems that occur in the daily operation of equipment or vehicles, such as wear and tear of parts, minor damage, etc.
- Overhaul: Applicable to situations where equipment or vehicles need to be fully overhauled to restore performance after a certain period of use.
